CAMH's Addiction Rounds: Responding to Ontario’s Opioid Crisis

Learning Objectives:

  • To learn about the landscape of untreated chronic pain, opioid prescribing, and the crisis of opioid use disorder and overdose deaths
  • To understand the risks inherent to both prescription opioid use and government opioid policy
  • To consider recent federal and provincial developments in prescription opioid policy and CAMH's recommendations for reducing harm

Jean-François Crépault, MA Senior Policy Analyst, Communications and Partnerships, CAMH
As Senior Policy Analyst at CAMH, Jean-François Crépault leads CAMH’s public policy efforts in the area of substance use, communicating evidence-based public policy to government and other stakeholders as part of CAMH’s organizational commitment to “driving social change.” He is the lead author of the CAMH Cannabis Policy Framework, which made the case for legalization and health-focused regulation of cannabis and has shaped debate around public health approaches to substance use in Canada.


Andrew Smith, MDCM
Andrew Smith is the Medical Lead of CAMH's new Interprofessional Pain and Addiction Recovery Clinic (IPARC). A neurologist with added specialization in pain and addiction medicine, he is a founding executive and hub member of ECHO Ontario Chronic Pain and Opioid Stewardship. This is a telementoring initiative which demonopolizes expertise and knowledge, and enhances care of patients with complex pain and substance use conditions in their own communities by their own primary clinicians.
