Participant Testimonials

“A fantastic program.”

“As someone with a social work background but not much experience working with substance use, things were still taught and discussed in a clear way, and I was able to gain so much knowledge and understanding from this course.”

Facilitator Biography

Jennifer Johnston
Jennifer Johnston has been drawn to the social work profession for as long as she can remember. She worked with at-risk and exploited youth in various youth centres and camps for inner-city teens beginning in her early high school days.

After graduating with a Bachelors and Masters of Social Work, Jenn went on to work with children and families for many years within the child welfare system. She has also worked exclusively with survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence, as well as those with lived experience in the sex trade through individual and group therapy modalities. Volunteering with Victim Services and facilitating classes at the Lindsay Correctional Facility has allowed her to work with a diverse population and led her to develop skills with a trauma-informed lens.

In more recent years, as family lifestyle has lent itself, she has pursued her dream of counselling in a private practice, which currently occupies the majority of her clinical time. You may also find her at Fleming College in the Social Service Worker and Mental Health & Addictions Program teaching young adults and mature students who share similar passions.

Jenn has four busy kids, as well as three stepchildren that keep her social work skills honed and humbled as well.
