Course Description
This two-part workshop series will examine the concepts of whiteness and white fragility, with a particular emphasis on the ways they impede our ability to have meaningful and authentic discussions about race. Armed with this knowledge, this workshop aims to help participants examine their own fragility and what they can do differently going forward. This workshop is delivered in two sessions and will involve facilitated learning, as well as large and small group discussions to deepen your understanding. Participants will be encouraged to get comfortable with discomfort!
Learning Objectives
- Learn about the concepts of whiteness and white fragility.
- Examine the ways in which white fragility impedes our ability to discuss issues of race.
- Recognize and mitigate reactions of discomfort and defensiveness associated with white fragility.
- Uncover tools for engaging in authentic discussions about race.
Facilitator Biographies
Angela Connors
Angela Connors, the Executive Director of the Community Race Relations Committee, is Anishnawbe from the Saugeen First Nation Beaver Clan. She has a passion for social justice, fuelled through her ancestry and shaped by over two decades in the non-profit sector and organized labour.
Angela has worked extensively with organizations across Ontario providing professional development encouraging dialogue and action on anti-racism and anti-oppression. She is a past recipient of the City of Toronto’s Access, Equity and Human Rights Award in Aboriginal Affairs.
In 2019 Angela spearheaded the successful campaign to get Peterborough to sign onto the Canadian Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities. She hopes to bring this campaign to municipalities across Peterborough County.
Alison Rodgers
Alison Rodgers (she/her) BA, BSW, MSW (can.), RSW is a dynamic and engaging leader with over 15 years of experience working in social service organizations. Currently, she is a Service Supervisor and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Lead at Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society. Alison’s passion lies in bringing diversity, equity, and inclusion into as many spaces as possible. She specializes in helping other white folx confront their own privilege and understand their critical role in dismantling whiteness and white supremacy. Alison is a skilled and experienced trainer with expertise in engaging people in crucial conversations to facilitate learning.

Registration for this workshop series has been capped at 35 participants.
What is a partner workshop series?
This refers to a workshop series that is being put on by another organization or individual with the support of A Question of Care.
Do I need to attend both of the sessions?
Yes, attendees will receive certificates of attendance for participating in both sessions.
Will these sessions be recorded?
No. These sessions will not be recorded in order to maintain the privacy of participants. The session slides, however, will be sent out.
What is your refund policy?
