Anti-Asian Racism in Canada: Then and Now
March 15, 2022 @ 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. ET
Presented by: Kennes Lin, MSW, RSW
While systemic anti-Asian racism has always existed, the pandemic sparked a surge
in COVID-19 related incidents of interpersonal anti-Asian racist attacks locally, nationally and globally. The “vulnerable” experienced the brunt of these attacks: the young, the old, women, and those less fluent in English. Many are shocked at the level of physical violence experienced by the Asian Canadian community, despite a long history of anti-Asian racism in Canada. The goals of the webinar include: to develop knowledge on a critical awareness of the settler identity as it related to anti-Asian racism, in what we come to call Canada. To gain tools and skills to amplify, advocate and ally against oppression generally, and anti-Asian racism specifically. To grow confidence in the professional social work identity when working with the Asian Canadian community.
This Webinar is FREE for Ontario Registered Social Workers (RSW), Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW) and Students of Social Work and Social Service Work Programs. Please note: If you are not an RSW, RSSW or student of these programs in Ontario, you may still attend but will be charged a nominal fee of $20.
