Assessing Strengths: A Culturally Responsive Tool to Promote Youth Wellness in Indigenous Contexts

Join us on September 23, 2021 at 12 PM EST for a free webinar on promoting youth wellness in Indigenous contexts.

Children and youth comprise 40% of the Indigenous population in Canada. These young people face significant health inequities compared to their peers, especially those living on-reserve. Data on health and well-being is needed to guide community policies, health services planning and evaluation that supports Indigenous communities on their path to health and well-being. This evidence to promote better health outcomes is lacking.

This webinar will focus on the development of the Aaniish Naa Gegii: A Children's Health and Well-being Measure (ACHWM) to illustrate how the voices and experiences of FNIM (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) children and youth were central to conceptualizing and designing a tool that is being used to collect data needed to promote wellbeing in a range of Indigenous communities across Canada.

The webinar will also host Natalie Neganegijig, a Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions Worker, Registered Social Worker, and Crisis Responder from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory. Natalie who has previously implemented the ACHWM in a community capacity, will share her experiences in supporting and responding to the needs of children and youth.
