\This webinar will describe a nurse mentoring program initiated by Dr Philippe Voyer at the Centre d'excellence sur le vieillissement de Québec. Three studies will be presented, which evaluated the effects of the mentoring program on non-pharmacological interventions for behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) among seniors in long-term care.
A complementary study focusing on nurse-pharmacist collaboration in long-term care settings, and its results regarding the use of antipsychotics for BPSD will also be presented.

Dr. Edeltraut Kröger, Faculty of pharmacy of Laval University; Research Scientist, Centre d'excellence sur le vieillissement de Québec
Dr. Edeltraut Kröger is a researcher in pharmacy and epidemiologist at the Center of Excellence in Aging (CIUSSS de la Capitale Nationale) in Quebec City and adjunct professor at the faculty of pharmacy of Laval University. Her research has helped to identify risk factors for dementia; since 2010, her work focuses on improving medication use in seniors, particularly those suffering from cognitive impairment. One of her main interests is to implement and assess successful interventions to decrease the use of inappropriate medications among these seniors. Since 2016, Dr. Kröger has also been investigating the use of medical cannabis among persons with chronic musculoskeletal pain, in particular the attitudes, perceptions and needs of patients and doctors with regard to this therapeutic possibility.

Philippe Voyer, RN, PhD, is Full Professor, Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Université Laval, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada; and Researcher, at the Research Unit of the Centre for Excellence in Aging, Quebec City. Dr. Voyer is also a researcher attached to the Quebec Aging Research Network (RQRV.com).
Philippe Voyer has been Professor in the Faculty of Nursing Sciences at Laval University for the past 20 years. At the Faculty, he is responsible for teaching geriatric nursing. He teaches to student nurses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His graduate students have conducted studies on delirium, behavioural problems among patients with major neurocognitive disorders, and the use of psychotropic medication by elderly people.
