Description:
This training builds on foundational cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) knowledge and helps professionals apply CBT strategies to specific clinical populations. Each module will help participants conceptualize cases and apply cognitive and behavioural strategies for specific common and complex mental health conditions - anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychosis, and bipolar disorder. Please see below for more information on the individual modules.

Prerequisite: Certificate in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT): Level 1 or equivalent knowledge/training in foundational CBT

*Please note: Each of the modules may be taken on their own as a stand-alone training, however, all five modules must be completed to obtain the Certificate of Participation.

Individual modules:

Module 1: CBT for anxiety with Noah Lazar, PhD, C.Psych.
April 5, 2024  •  9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET  •  CE: 6 hours

  • Understand the CBT model of anxiety
  • Increase ability to conceptualize different anxiety disorders
  • Develop cognitive skills to treat anxiety disorders
  • Develop behavioural skills to treat anxiety disorders


Module 2: CBT for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
with Noah Lazar, PhD, C.Psych.
April 11, 2024  •  9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET  •  CE: 6 hours

  • CBT conceptualization of GAD and OCD
  • Utilization of cognitive restructuring techniques in these populations
  • Utilization of exposure and response prevention in these populations


Module 3: CBT for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with prolonged exposure (PE) therapy
with Daniel Peluso, PhD, C.Psych.
April 19 and 26, 2024  •  9 a.m. to noon ET  •  CE: 6 hours

  • Recognize the development and maintenance of PTSD
  • Gain insights into PTSD assessment and diagnosis
  • Execute the rationale, evidence-base and clinical application of PE therapy principles for PTSD


Module 4: CBT for psychosis
with Noah Lazar, PhD, C.Psych.
May 3, 2024  •  9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET  •  CE: 6 hours

  • Understand the CBT model for psychosis
  • Treat delusions, hallucinations, thought and disorder, and negative symptoms


Module 5: CBT for bipolar disorder
with Noah Lazar, PhD, C.Psych.
May 17, 2024  •  9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET  •  CE: 6 hours

  • BT conceptualization of bipolar disorder
  • Application of monitoring techniques
  • Application of behavioural techniques for depression and mania
  • Application of cognitive restructuring techniques

Continuing Education (CE) information: 30 CE hours

SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health Learning Institute is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer continuing education (CE) hours. The number of eligible CE hours are outlined within each program. SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health Learning Institute maintains responsibility for the programs.

Other licensing boards and professional organizations will grant continuing education credits for attendance at their own discretion; participants will need to submit the course outline and Certificate of Participation for their consideration.
