Description:
In this training, Dr. Adele Lafrance will share lessons learned as a psychologist and research scientist actively engaged in both fields – psychedelic medicine and conventional psychology/psychotherapy. Supported by anecdotes, video clips and research, concepts such as emotion processing, spirituality, intergenerational trauma, and attachment will be reviewed from a different lens, including practical ways to bridge the work with clients.

Learning objectives:

  • Describe the conceptualization of mental health issues informed by lessons learned in the context of psychedelic medicine
  • Describe clinical interventions from psychedelic medicine
  • Discuss the need to rehabilitate the concept of love in psychotherapy

Facilitator Bio:
Dr. Adele Lafrance, PhD, C. Psych.
 is a clinical psychologist, research scientist, author, and developer of emotion-focused treatment modalities. She is active in the research and practice of psychedelic medicine, with a focus on ayahuasca, MDMA, psilocybin, and ketamine.

Currently, Adele is the Strategy Lead for the MAPS-sponsored study of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for eating disorders. She is also a clinical trainer and supervisor for Imperial College Center for Psychedelic Research. Adele has a particular interest in mechanisms and models of healing, including emotion processing, spirituality, love, and family-based psychedelic medicine.


Continuing Education (CE) information: 3 CE hours

SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health Learning Institute is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer continuing education (CE) hours. The number of eligible CE hours are outlined within each program. SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health Learning Institute maintains responsibility for the programs.

Other licensing boards and professional organizations will grant continuing education credits for attendance at their own discretion; participants will need to submit the course outline and Certificate of Participation for their consideration.
