Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skill: Radical Acceptance
September 20, 2022 @ 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. ET
Presented by: Laval Martin MSW, RSW
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is an empirically-supported therapeutic modality which belongs to the third wave of cognitive behavioural therapies.
Many aspects of life seem unacceptable and intolerable. This combination leads to misery and suffering. What if there was a way to transform that suffering into a manageable level of pain? While it cannot eliminate pain, the skill of radical acceptance, as practiced in DBT, can help to reduce suffering.
This introductory webinar will provide an overview of the DBT skill of radical acceptance. Radical acceptance will also be critiqued from an anti-oppressive lens. The webinar will explore the ways in which radical acceptance can be helpful for our clients (and ourselves). Common misconceptions and misapplications will also be addressed. Participants will understand radical acceptance and learn about practical exercises to enhance their own skills along with how to teach this skill to their clients.
This Webinar is FREE for Ontario Registered Social Workers (RSW), Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW) and Students of Social Work and Social Service Work Programs. Please note: If you are not an RSW, RSSW or student of these programs in Ontario, you may still attend but will be charged a fee of $20.
