Attendees will gain insight into the various forms of elder abuse and their prevalence, along with knowledge of ageism as a social norm. This training will provide an overview of the intersectionality of risk factors and the impact of abuse on the health and well-being of older adults. Guiding principles through a trauma/violence-informed lens will be discussed. Ontario’s legislation related to elder abuse and reporting will be reviewed as well as unique barriers to reporting.

By the end of this Webinar, learners will be able to:
1. Define elder abuse and understand the impact of ageism on elder abuse.
2. Identify the various forms (financial, physical, sexual, psychological and neglect) and indicators of elder abuse.
3. Understand the prevalence of elder abuse in Canada.
4. Describe the intersectionality of risk factors and ageism that predispose older adults to elder abuse.
5. Gain knowledge on the guiding principles through a trauma/violence-informed lens, when supporting an older adult.

This Webinar is FREE for Ontario Registered Social Workers (RSW), Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW) and Students of Social Work and Social Service Work Programs. Please note: If you are not an RSW, RSSW or student of these programs in Ontario, you may still attend but will be charged a nominal fee of $30.
