The Excellence in Mental Health Leadership program helps participants develop the skills and knowledge required to thrive as leaders in community mental health services. Delivered by leading academics and subject matter experts, this program is comprised of two separate offerings and includes optional micro-credential recognition through Humber College.

Developed in consultation with community mental health leaders from across Ontario, the program is designed to help community-based organizations to:

  • provide inclusive, equitable and anti-racist services;
  • navigate sector and funding changes; and,
  • incorporate in-demand and future-proof skills required for succession planning within Ontario’s mental health sector

Are you:

  • transitioning into a manager role?
  • in a leadership role but have received minimal formal training?
  • wanting to update and improve your skills?

I’ll preface first: Sorry to those that may not like my comment.

Excellence in Mental Health Leadership is an oxymoron. Without the person power to fulfill the desperate need for MH Clinical Treatment at Moderate to Severe levels, more changes, pilot projects, failed programs taken from other countries, new middle management positions, are all money wasted. Forget naval gazing; less “experts” and leaders, and have those few “want-be’s” treat clients/patients. And most of all cut the government’s ridiculous desire to start up another Task Force. We all know what and how to get people the help they need; more money for training spaces in Public Colleges and Universities. Only after higher level clinicians are adequately trained, should there ever be advanced Professional Development credentials. Right here is the perfect example, semantics and reinventing content known for years; micro credentials on how to treat employees with respect, trust, co-participation and above all, listening to their needs, suggestions, ideas, difficulties and what or who needs changing. The leaders are those in the trenches, not sitting learning about leadership.

Please think about it, and then reply with your thoughts. You have the answers already.
