Exploring Preferred Stories in Narrative Therapy for Depression

There is a high prevalence of people of all ages experiencing depression and seeking out professional help. This workshop will highlight and explore the effectiveness of Narrative Therapy approaches to aid those with depressive thoughts, emotions and behaviours in elevating hopefulness.

Join Angel Yuen in this full day online workshop where we will extend the introductory learning from the webinar ‘Narrative Therapy: Re-Authoring Stories of Depression’. Together we will explore more ideas and practices that shape narrative therapy in relation to working with people struggling with depression. Additionally, there will be a focus of the politics and ethics that guide narrative therapy practices. This full day training will also allow opportunity for practice exercises and discussion in breakout rooms.

By the end of this workshop, learners will:

  1. Have a more thorough understanding of the ideas that shape narrative therapy including how discourses and broader power relations are intertwined with the stories of people’s lives
  2. Be able to bring the narrative practice of externalizing problems into their work
  3. Be able to use the narrative practice of double-listening in their work
  4. Have knowledge about deconstructing stories of depression and failure
