Family Education Speaker Series: Pet Therapy: Animals as Healers - What is the Evidence?
In this latest speaker series, our resident psychiatrist Dr. John Aoun will provide a talk on understanding the benefits and pitfalls of psychotherapies in mental health care
Topics to be discussed include:
  • Clearly define what pet therapy is

  • Understand current evidence for use of pet therapy in common mental health disorders

  • Examine ways to increase access to  pet therapy for psychiatric patients

About the speaker:

John is a fourth-year psychiatry resident at the University of Toronto. He has studied in French, English, and Arabic and has obtained degrees in Biochemistry/Pharmacology from McGill University, Business from HEC Montreal, and Medicine from the University of Montreal. He was very fortunate to have grown up around all kinds of animals since his childhood and now lives with a beautiful yellow Labrador and the fluffiest Bunny Rabbit, and has seen first hand the wonderful impact they all had on his mental health sparking the idea for today's presentation. His main interests include teaching and mentoring, learning new languages, and the marriage of art and psychiatry.
