Foundations of Africentric Social Work

March 24, 2023 @ 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. ET

Presented by: Amma Gyamfowa, RSW

The social work profession in Canada engages with African, Caribbean and Black identified youth and families through a variety of sectors including, but not limited to education, healthcare, and child welfare. However, traditional Canadian models of care embedded in social work practice marginalize Black communities and engrain anti-Black racism in its delivery. As a result, there is an urgent need to design programs and supports that center Africentric knowledge, practices and models of care that culturally respond to the needs of Black youth, families and communities.

This webinar will provide foundational information on Africentric Social Work theory, practices and delivery in individual and community social work practice. This webinar will complement the upcoming Empowering Black Futures & Wellness through Africentric Care courses offered in April & May 2023.
