About the workshop:

Hosted in collaboration with the Client and Family Relations team at The Royal. Cognitive Adaptation Training (CAT) is a practical, evidence-based approach for families and caregivers of adults living with schizophrenia. In this interactive workshop you will gain strategies and tools to help your loved one build independence in taking care of themselves, their spaces, and participating in their communities.

About our presenters:

Courtney Brennan (she/her) is an Occupational Therapist (OT) leading the CAT service at CAMH. An OT for 11 years, Courtney has focused her work on enabling adults living with schizophrenia spectrum diagnoses to live more independently and engage with their occupations and communities. A researcher, educator, and clinician, Courtney has built evidence, trainings, and pathways to support the delivery of CAT throughout the hospital, while spearheading the use of CAT with forensic populations.

Shannon Xavier (she/her) is an Occupational Therapist (OT) in the Integrated Schizophrenia Recovery Program at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. An OT since 2012, Shannon has journeyed alongside individuals living with complex mental health issues to support recovery, promote independence and enable engagement with their daily activities and their communities. Shannon has worked in inpatient, outpatient and transitional settings at leading mental health organizations across the province, utilizing CAT in her practice to set clients up for success as well as facilitating education and trainings to support the implementation of CAT.
