Description: This training program presents the theoretical foundations, relational theories and therapeutic guidelines of interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) for depression. It will present clinical demonstrations and skills practicing to expand clinical repertoires and improve outcomes.

IPT is an evidence-supported, brief structured transdiagnostic treatment. It focuses on the centrality of relationships in illness, recovery, and resilience for mental health. IPT provides clinicians with a brief, structured, present and affect-focused approach to help patients in the contexts of stressful life events. Stressful life events such as loss, change, conflicts and loneliness that are associated with symptom onset or worsening.

This training includes the following:

  • two half-days of live, virtual training with clinical demonstrations and skills practicing
  • five modules of self-directed case-based interactive online learning with videotaped captioned demonstrations that present an overview of the research, theoretical foundations and applied clinical guidelines of interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT).

Registration includes a copy of Dr. Paula Ravitz’s book, Psychotherapy Essentials To-Go: Interpersonal Therapy for Depression and DVD with practice reminder card.

Continuing Education (CE) information: 6 CE hours

SickKids CCMH Learning Institute has approval from the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) for participants of our programming to apply the number of CE hours earned in the program towards their continuing education hours.

Other licensing boards and professional organizations will grant continuing education credits for attendance at their own discretion; participants will need to submit the course outline and certificate for their consideration.
