Introduction to Party & Play/ Chemsex (2-part webinar series)

virtual

The Gay Men's Sexual Health Alliance is partnering with Toronto Public Health to offer a 2 part webinar series for health and social service providers.

Session 1: Introduction to Party & Play (1 hour)
Tuesday, February 14, 2023: 10 am. to 11 am.

In this introductory level training, we explore the social and cultural context of Party & Play (PnP) in communities of gay, bisexual, queer and other men who have sex with men in Ontario. This interactive training illuminates the biological, cultural, and psychological impacts of PnP. We will examine the various drugs/substances used, and participants will learn of drug interactions and harm reduction approaches that are culturally relevant for individuals who practice PnP.

Learning Objectives:
• Describe PnP and populations that are disproportionately impacted. Understand the range of substance use patterns, substances used, and their effects.
• Understand the drug, set, and setting framework.
• Practice a harm reduction approach to substance use in the context of sex, including practical strategies.

Session 2: Party & Play- Part 2 (90 minutes)
Thursday, March 2, 2023: 1 pm. to 2.30 pm.

In part 2, we dig deeper into the biopsychosocial context of PnP within the GBMSM community and approaches to education, outreach, clinical care, and support. Participants will explore various PnP scenarios via case studies, learn about resources, including a new provincial campaign on PnP, and practice person-centred, inclusive and affirming care.

Learning Objectives:
• Develop awareness of basic principles of cultural humility and safety, trauma-informed practice and their practical application when working with GBMSM.
• Identify opportunities for more integrated care.
• Describe various interventions across the spectrum of PnP engagement.
• Learn currently available resources, programs, and services.

Both sessions are intended for front-line providers, including sexual health nurses, HIV outreach staff, volunteers, and people working in harm reduction and community service organizations. The training uses didactic, interactive, videos/multimedia, and problem-based learning. All training on PnP by GMSH includes contributions and perspectives from people with lived experience.

Please register on Eventbrite first. Once we have received your registration on Eventbrite, we will send you the Zoom link for both dates.

Hi Richard,

In September, we launched our campaign with a live-stream event, including remarks and a panel discussion. This webinar series leverages campaign resources but is more of a conventional training event. Some of the content has been borrowed from our CME training but is still largely tailored for Toronto Public Health and its stakeholders.

Thanks for asking!
