The Listening to the Margins conference in Toronto, Canada will bring together a network of scholars, healthcare providers, and lived experience speakers dedicated to generating conversations and producing knowledge at the intersection of childhood disability and race in Canada. This is the first time in history that such an event, centering childhood disability and race, is occurring. This 2-day conference is hosted by the HEART – Health Experiences and Arts-Based Research Team – Lab at X (Ryerson) University and the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto. The event will feature talks by leading scholars in the field, including Dr. Sharon Smile, Dr. Carl James, Dr. Janelle Brady, and Dr. Raven Sinclair. The 2-day event will also provide a forum for lived experience speakers to share their stories of childhood disability and race. The 2-day conference will be grounded in the arts and will feature an art installation composed of work from racialized individuals with chronic health conditions and disabilities. This event is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada Connection Program.
