My Teen Has Depression: How Can I Help as a Parent/Caregiver?

This webinar is tailored to help parents understand and support their teens experiencing depression with or without suicidal ideation. Throughout the presentation, parents will learn about the signs and symptoms of depression in teens, as well as strategies for providing support and assistance. Topics covered will include recognizing the difference between typical adolescent behaviour and signs of depression, how to initiate the conversation with their teen, and best practices for creating a supportive home environment. Additionally, the webinar will provide information on suicide prevention, including warning signs to watch for, how to talk to teens about suicide, and where to seek help and support if needed.

Speaker: Dr. Nicolás F. Narvaez Linares, C. Psych. Pediatric Neuropsychologist, Clinical & School Psychologist.

Dr. Narvaez Linares is a licensed psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) and l’Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ). He specializes in providing comprehensive services to children, youth, and families with neurodevelopmental disorders, medical conditions, and gifted and twice-exceptional profiles.In therapy, Dr. Narvaez Linares offers support in English, French, and Spanish to children and youth up to 19 years old who are struggling with anxiety and mood disorders. He assists with various challenges, including managing suicidality, stress, interpersonal relationships, toxic masculinity and executive functioning. Additionally, he provides specialized support to gifted/twice-exceptional individuals and LGBTQIA2+ youth. Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Narvaez Linares serves as a part-time professor, supervisor, and actively participates in various local and national committees dedicated to promoting psychology training and awareness.
