Narrative Therapy: Re-Authoring Stories of Depression

How do the stories we have, shape our lives? How can we re-author them to improve well-being? Depression is well known for diminishing hope and obscuring preferred identity stories for persons of all ages. Narrative therapy is a collaborative and non-pathologizing approach to counselling and community work which centers people as the experts of their own lives. A narrative approach views the problem of depression as separate from the person and assumes people have many skills, abilities, values, commitments, beliefs and competencies. A Narrative Therapy approach offers effective and helpful skills and practices for elevating hope by considering the broader contexts when working with stories of depression.
