The Ontario Association of Mental Health Professions (OAMHP) is excited to announce its upcoming two-day conference in September, bringing together mental health professionals from across Canada.
The primary focus of the conference is to empower mental health workers by emphasizing the importance of self-care. By nurturing their own well-being, they can enhance their ability to support their clients effectively.

Keynote session: The Current State of Mental Health in Canada
We invite you to attend the Annual Conference keynote session on The Current State of Mental Health in Canada delivered by Michael Cooper, Vice-President of Development & Strategic Partnerships at Mental Health Research Canada.
Michael will discuss the impact of burnout on health workers, focusing on mental health professionals. The keynote will also cover barriers to mental care access and the relationship between resilience and mental health.
Panel Discussion: Caring for Ourselves so We can Care Better for Others
This conversation with three of the conference’s workshop presenters will address the need for mental health professionals to re-energize and re-connect, so that we can safely and effectively help our clients in the aftermath of COVID 19.
Bullet Proof: Building a Sustainable Career in Mental Health
What is the top reason for failed private practice in this industry? This workshop will explore the top reasons, and also examine how mental health practitioners can build a sustainable practice.
Transference and Counter-transference: Indicators of issues or a therapist’s most valuable spider sense?
Therapists will be able to leave with some valuable insights into how they use and view transference and countertransference within their own practice.
Discovery and Exploration of Professional Roles
This workshop is about a certain understanding that we bring with us in addition to our expertise, and understanding of what is our role in relation to the role of the client.
Exploring Resilience through Overcoming the Trauma of Anti-Black Racism
This workshop is aimed at helping clinicians learn skills on how to work with clients who present with racial trauma in the therapy space.
Clinicians will also learn the ways in which resilience/resistance can be fostered within the therapy setting to help clients to navigate and process their experiences to reach a space of post-traumatic growth.
Four Blinks
Four Blinks is a Flash-like process and recently developed therapeutic intervention for reducing the disturbance associated with traumatic or distressing memories.
This technique is an an EMDR resource to decrease the distress in memories prior to clearing and reprocessing the memory in EMDR.
