Prejudices That Impact LGBTQ+ People

Prejudices That Impact LGBTQ+ People

June 17, 2022 @ 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. ET

Presented by: Marco Posadas, MSW, RSW

This webinar is designed for social workers who are providing front line services, mental health care, and performing the controlled act of psychotherapy in Ontario. It utilizes a creative approach and provides tools to help social workers think about the impact of prejudices targeting LGBTQ+ communities when seeking mental health services. The webinar will provide an overview of socially constructed prejudices impacting the lives of clients who identify as members of LGBTQ+ communities with the hope of reducing, preventing and repairing harm in the social work relationship. We particularly emphasize testimonies from members of LGBTQ+ communities at multiple intersections as examples of the dynamics of power, privilege and oppression that can occur when working with clients. The goal is to provide strategies to prevent and repair systemic harm that may happen when working with LGBTQ+ people.

This Webinar is FREE for Ontario Registered Social Workers (RSW), Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW) and Students of Social Work and Social Service Work Programs. Please note: If you are not an RSW, RSSW or student of these programs in Ontario, you may still attend but will be charged a fee of $20.
