Revolutionizing Trauma and Addiction Treatment with The Felt Sense Polyvagal Model™

April 11, 2022 @ 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. ET

Presented by: Jan Winhall, MSW, RSW

Register for this webinar to learn about the use of Polyvagal model to treat trauma and addiction. The model provides a paradigm shift from the traditional disease approach to an embodied understanding of trauma and addiction through the lens of the autonomic nervous system. In critiquing the model, we will expand the notion of ‘trauma’ and discuss the implications of polyvagal theory in marginalized communities. From an embodied perspective addiction and other trauma responses are viewed as adaptive responses to maladaptive environments. Through an anti-oppressive lens, we explore Young’s Five Faces of Oppression as they relate to current limited and pathologizing models of trauma and addiction. An introduction of Porges’ Polyvagal theory and Gendlin’s Felt Sense will provide the participants with an alternative way of conceptualizing and treating addiction. In keeping with an embodied approach, the webinar will include a description of the model, and several experiential practices in working with the Felt Sense.

This Webinar is FREE for Ontario Registered Social Workers (RSW), Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW) and Students of Social Work and Social Service Work Programs. Please note: If you are not an RSW, RSSW or student of these programs in Ontario, you may still attend but will be charged a fee of $40.
