Presented by The SILA Skills Group, Transforming Classrooms is a workshop that enables effective interaction between teacher and student, one of the most important factors in improving learning. Developed in consultation with teachers the workshop draws on skills from DBT.

“The skills taught in this workshop can have a transformative effect in the classroom.  Teachers using these skills will be able to build better relationships with their students, improve coping skills and create a supportive, validating and respectful environment. We have seen the successful implementation of DBT skills in classrooms throughout the world and The SILA Skills Group is at the helm of the new movement in using a more integrative and holistic approach to education.”

Blaise Aguirre, MD

Medical Director, 3 East DBT Continuum

Assistant Professor in Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry

Educators who participate in SILA’s workshops are reporting reduced stress, improved coping skills and a much calmer classroom environment.

As a participant you will learn to:

  • Recognize your own emotional vulnerability and reactivity in any given situation to position yourself to interact effectively.
  • Reframe how you interpret a student’s behaviour by approaching with curiosity, removing judgement and being in the moment to respond effectively to the current situation.
  • Build trust, reduce intensity of emotions and open the door for problem solving.
  • Find the path to bridge communication between teacher and student, student and student, teacher and parent, teacher and teacher.
  • Best of all, you can use these skills right away!

The workshop will enhance social emotional learning in your school. Participants will have the opportunity to practice these skills using real-life scenarios drawn from their own experience. When these skills are learned and practiced, the outcomes are improved teacher, staff and student mental health, improved classroom dynamics and improved student learning.
