Course Description
This interactive, engaging workshop series will cover information about and related to substance use, including viewing substance use on a continuum, substance use effects, how people make change, review of an abstinence approach and a harm reduction approach, recovery treatment options in Ontario, stamping out stigma, and recovery concepts.
Please note that this is a revised and updated version of the workshop formally called Addictions 101: Exploring Substance Use and Gambling.

Facilitator Biographies
Cheryl Robinson
Cheryl Robinson first entered the helping professions over twenty-five years ago, by working at a shelter for men experiencing homelessness. It was there at the shelter that she became aware of the devastating cycle of addiction. Cheryl has been offering counselling for individuals concerned with their mental health and addictions for over 16 years and has been a registered psychotherapist since 2015. Cheryl has been the Clinical Director of the Canadian Health Recovery Centre since 2019 where her dream of seeing individuals being able to access the holistic resources needed to heal mind, body, and spirit has been realized.
Ashley Davidson
Ashley Davidson started in the mental health and addiction field in 2013. She started her work in community treatment with individuals who were living in shelters or experiencing homelessness. Ashley continued her work through assessment and triage at an addiction community treatment agency for three years. Currently, Ashley serves as the Admission Co-Ordinator at the Canadian Health Recovery Centre. She is passionate about helping to create community and connection among the guests at the Centre as they pursue their recovery journey.

Who should attend this workshop series?
This workshop series is designed specifically for helping professionals. We define "helping professional" as anyone in a position of interacting with people in providing a service.
How many people can attend?
Registration for this workshop series has been capped at 35 participants.
What is a level one core QoC workshop series?
This refers to a workshop series that is a part of QoC's core curriculum and is offered at a more basic level, though it can be beneficial to anyone regardless of their experience in the field.
Do I need to attend all of the sessions?
Ideally, you will be able to attend all of the sessions, but you must be able to attend at least two out of the three. Attendees will receive certificates of attendance for participating in a minimum of 2/3 sessions.
Will these sessions be recorded?
No. These sessions will not be recorded in order to maintain the privacy of participants. The session slides, however, will be sent out.
What is your refund policy?
We can offer refunds up to seven days before the first session. Eventbrite's fee is nonrefundable. After this period, we can accept substitutions. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
