The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the health and economic inequities experienced by immigrant and newcomer communities. A lack of culturally relevant care and public health information may mean these communities confront more misinformation and more difficulty accessing services. This is compounded with other social determinants of health, such as precarious employment and housing, which disproportionately affect immigrants and newcomers and leave them at heightened risk in the COVID-19 pandemic.

This webinar will explore what frontline service providers in Ontario can do to continue supporting immigrants and newcomers during the pandemic. Topics of discussion will include: COVID-19 vaccination, continued healthcare and supports for social and mental health.

Moderator: Christopher Hoy, Manager, Hepatitis C Community Health Programming

Speakers:

  • Paula Day, Nurse Practitioner, Ottawa Newcomer Health Clinic
  • A speaker from Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services
  • Manvir Bhangu, Manager of Operations, Punjabi Community Health Services
  • Giovanni Rico, Manager, Toronto South Local Immigration Partnership

CATIE is Canada’s source for HIV and hepatitis C information. In Ontario, CATIE has an enhanced mandate from the Ontario Ministry of Health to support immigrant and newcomer health information and education efforts.
