Covid19 related content: This webinar will address the impact of the stress that the Covid-19 pandemic has added to already traumatized populations. As many families are experiencing increased loneliness, fear and conflict due to the current reality of our "lockdown" state, this webinar will reflect on how existing effects of trauma might be further compounded, leading to even greater distress than in pre-pandemic times.

Description: This training explores the background of how trauma impacts children and families and how best to work with these clients to identify myriad traumatic responses and encourage healing in the family system.

By the end of this webinar participants will be able to recognize the effects of trauma in children and adolescents, understand the many manifestations of complex developmental trauma and how to incorporate this understanding into their work. The facilitators will provide strategies to assist in the stabilization and support of youth with traumatic histories as well as steps in how to use relationship in order to promote healing in traumatized children. The webinar is family-focused and will include some time spent on parenting in the context of trauma.

Learning objectives:

  • Recognize the effects of trauma in children and adolescents
  • Understand the many manifestations of complex developmental trauma and how to incorporate this understanding into front-line work with children and families
  • Develop strategies to assist in the stabilization and support of youth with traumatic histories and will consider what the stages of trauma-focused treatment might look like
  • Learn about the importance of relationship in the promotion of healing in traumatized children
