The chair work taught in this training is a psychotherapeutic technique. Only those permitted to practice psychotherapy in their professional scope may use chair work clinically with clients.

COVID related content: Along with discussing the increased family dynamics that we see emerging in the field since COVID-19, this training will offer recommendations for using chair work with clients online compared to in-person.

Description: Client block and caregiver block chair work are  interventions that trained therapists can use in the context of individual, caregiver and group-based sessions. This online training is intended for therapists interested in learning to use and/or deepening their skills of client block and caregiver block chair work.

Natasha will offer a review of the scripts, offer video demonstrations, an in-depth exploration of each step, and will also discuss the practical application to using chair work with clients to process their blocks, as well as with caregivers in groups and sessions. Participants will have an opportunity to practice both scripts with partners and containment for online sessions will be explored.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify blocks/markers to process in chair work
  • Understand when to use chair work in sessions with both clients and caregivers.
  • Acquire strategies to support the processing of stuck emotions in clients and caregivers
  • Learn the important measures to containing chair work when executed online
