Working with violent, suicidal, and self-destructive adolescents: A collaborative strengths-based family therapy approach

Live webinar series February 24 and 25, 2022 | 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST
Facilitator: Matthew D. Selekman, MSW, LCSW

Adolescents presenting with explosive and violent behaviours – and other behaviours such as highly oppositional, school disruptive, serious eating-distressed, heavy substance abuse and self-injury and delinquency – can be a serious challenge to work with for even the most seasoned of therapists. Often, these youth come from families characterized by emotional disconnection, invalidation, and other destructive interactions.

While the adolescents’ extreme and provocative behaviours attract helping professionals and concerned members from their social network, the larger systems professionals often are divided regarding their problem explanations and what the best treatment approach and level of care setting is for them. Combining both family therapy science and evidence-based practice wisdom can optimize treatment success.

In this “hands-on,” practice-oriented webinar, participants will learn how to tailor-fit and individualize their therapy approach. Creating an approach to honour the client’s unique preferences, theories of change, and optimize for their goal attainment. The webinar format will combine information-rich didactic presentation, extensive use of videotape examples, and skill-building exercises.

Registration fee: $500.00 . Student and group rates are available.
