The role of online apps and interventions in gambling treatment and support

I posted a few weeks ago about the University of Sydney's Technology Addiction Team weekly one-hour seminar series on design, emerging technologies and the impact gambling behaviour.

However, seeing the recent activity in our COI posts, I wanted to highlight one talk in particular entitled, The role of online apps and interventions in gambling treatment and support.

This is super interesting Flora! We'd love to hear more about the development and implementation of your app.

HI,

Sorry for the delay. Here is some additional information on the app.

“The SPRinG app (Support for People Recovering from Gambling) is currently being developed to help, first and foremost, persons experiencing poverty and homelessness self-manage their problem gambling and other complex needs by providing constant access to support through their smartphone. The app will also function as a tool for anyone experiencing gambling concerns to manage the harms associated with excessive gambling. The app will provide clients with: 1) individualized content that breaks down the skills clients require to manage their PG; 2) tools that help clients control their gambling; 3) journaling and visualization tools to help provide clients with insight and a record of their progress, and 4) quick access to people who can help support clients recovery.”

Thanks for sharing this. I'm in the process of designing/developing a self-management app for recovery from gambling problems so looking forward to hearing this presentation.

Hi I believe I signed up for it under the main calender. I was looking for a registration??

Thanks,

Hi Chris,

As someone also planning on attending the event, I was also a little confused about registration. I registered for the "series" here.

The Eventbrite email I received contained this message:

We will send out updates prior to each webinar, but in the meantime, feel free to subscribe to our YouTube channel where you will be able to access the live-stream of each webinar: https://www.youtube.com/user/kphilander

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact our team via email:

Tom Swanton: thomas.swanton@sydney.edu.au

I'm going to hang tight and assume I'll get an email closer to the event start time.   But it looks like you can also email Tom if you have further questions.

The good news is, they are also really good at posting the recordings to youtube (link above) after the event, in case you aren't able to watch live and/or want to refer the recording later.
