The Gambling, Gaming, and Technology Use team is offering a facilitated workshop: Fundamentals of gambling and gaming: Effective assessment and treatment planning on March 10th from 13:00 to 15:00 hours EST.
This training is best suited to newly qualified clinicians as well as students who are currently working directly with clients, however, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Gambling and Gaming (FUN-GG) course is a prerequisite.
FUN-GG is a short, self-directed course that provides a foundational understanding of problem gambling and gaming. This training is accredited by the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board and the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation for 4.0 Continuing Education Units/Hours. Description:
This workshop is an opportunity for learners who have completed the Fundamentals of Gambling and Gaming course to practice and apply key skills related to formulating effective assessment questions, case conceptualization, and treatment planning for clients experiencing problem gambling and gaming (i.e. video games, online gaming). Registration for the workshop will be limited to 12 to allow for interactivity and engagement in individual and small group activities with a Standardized Patient, as well as the opportunity to receive personalized feedback. Learners will also take part in a question and answer discussion with peers and an experienced clinician in the field of gambling and gaming.
This training is accredited by the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board (CPGCB) and the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF) for 2.0 Continuing Education Units/Hours (CEUs).
Learning objectives:
1) Demonstrate examples of effective assessment questions for problem gambling and gaming.
2) Determine the different motivations for gambling and gaming in a session with a Standardized Patient.
Facilitator bio:
Shawn Rumble, BA, BEd, MES, CSAR – Candidate, SRT, IAT, PRT, ICGG-II, CCS-AC, CCRC
Shawn identifies as a Person with Lived Experience (PWLE), an Addiction Recovery Specialist, and Mental Health Care Leader. His bio includes a 20 year career in Mental Health Care & Addictions with contributions to the 12 Step Community, development of Canada’s Lower-Risk Gambling Guidelines, publication in the Journal of Gambling Studies, advancement of Chemical & Behavioural Treatment Programs, and receipt of the 2021 Jeff Wilbee Award.
He is a highly qualified professional holding designations as a Sexual Recovery Therapist (SRT); Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) – Candidate; Intimacy Anorexia Therapist (IAT); Partners Recovery Therapist (PRT); International Certified Gambling Counselor (ICGC-II); International Certified Alcohol and Drug Counsellor (ICADC); Canadian Clinical Supervisor - Addiction Counsellor (CCS-AC); Canadian Certified Recovery Coach (CCRC); Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist; Level 3 Therapeutic Touch Practitioner; and Reiki Master.
Shawn operates a Private Addictions Counselling Practice; serves as President of the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board; and is employed as an Addictions Program Coordinator in Southwestern Ontario. He is married with three boys, has a Bullboxer Pit, rides a Harley, and can be found on Social Media as @StigmaSlayer.
