Reply to "Teens and social media use: What's the impact?"

Hi Tracy,

I see the negative effects of social media on a daily bases in my current role. As you mentioned the isolation and loneliness that can come with prolonged use of social media can be devastating to mental health. I am seeing an increasing number of youth that are identifying more self-harm and suicidal ideation since the pandemic and the use of social media and apps. We are seeing a lot of group chats through social media apps the encourage cyber bullying and it is increasing the likelihood of depression and SH/SI.

When working with families and teens that have issues with social media I encourage limit to use of technology, monitoring as best as possible of online activity, limit the access to apps, limit time on wifi.
