Molly's Game - She runs a high stakes poker game for prominent stars and mafia. She then finds herself in trouble after the FBI finds interest in her. The Gambler - a professor is addicted to gambling and finds himself in trouble with his enemies. Mississippi Grind - a man believes his new found friend is a lucky charm when it comes to gambling. These are only a few off hand. Since I have a great interest in problem gambling prevention, awareness and addiction, I often look for movies of...

I wrote a couple of papers on the topic. I've posted below the reference to the most comprehensive. its a few years out of date, but has a wealth of information of different films and their content. The paper is probably due for an update. Turner, N.E., Fritz, B., Zangeneh, M., (2007). Images Of Gambling In Film. Journal of Gambling Issues . 20 ,117-144.

@Registered Member thank you for these suggestions! @Registered Member we have lots of fodder for upcoming Movie Clubs! Has anyone seen Uncut Gems? I saw it before I joined GGTU, but I think a re-watch is in order, now that I would bring a news lens to it.

I wish I had time to update it. So much to do. So little time. Note there are also some movies reviews I've done published on the JGI. For example I published a comparison between the two versions of "Walking Tall".

Great clip! Thanks for sharing Tara Marie and great to see Dr. Turner speaking on this panel. Curious to see the data on how popular regulated SESB becomes in Ontario as this rule comes into force... I know in the UK single events betting deals are highly advertised during major events such as football matches and horse racing.

Also curious to know how popular regulated SESB becomes! I predict we may also see many new ads for these activities here.

New panel interview on single-event sports betting!

Soon, on August 27, the federal government will make it legal to gamble on individual sporting events . The provinces and territories will be able to set rules for new online and physical-venue forms of single-event sports betting (SESB). With Canadians spending approximately $10 billion per year on SESB through illegal networks, plus additional billions via opportunities in offshore jurisdictions, the new legal changes provide opportunity to regulate and control SESB, and divert money from...

Great clip - I agree that Dr. Turner had some balanced views. Definitely think we'll see some increased advertising! I'm interested in the points made that legalized SESB will likely divert money into legal streams that have the potential to: 1) help people come into contact with responsible gambling (RG) platforms and 2) a portion of that diverted money can be used to fund treatment and education. I'm also curious how likely the first point is, given these types of bets might not be made in...
