Gambling, Gaming & Technology Use Community of Interest

The Gambling, Gaming & Technology Use Community of Interest brings together addiction and mental health service providers, researchers and subject matter experts in the fields of gambling, technology/Internet use and video gaming to collaborate and share knowledge on emerging trends and clinical best practices.

The following article outlines the symptoms and implications of problem technology use in relation to social media. The authors importantly highlight the fact that frequent social media usage does not necessarily equal social media addiction. The role of self-esteem is also discussed with case study examples.

This article points out many negative consequences of social media addiction that are very similar to the ones that were mentioned in the article I read. It also mentions that time spent on social media was positively related to depressive symptoms in high school students in the USA and Serbia. This is something that is particularly important to clinicians such as myself who work exclusively with youth.
