It's always nice to see a bit of good news.
While we still have a ways to go to overcome the multiple forms of stigma associated with mental illness, the younger generation may provide some hope. In this article by Greater Good Science Centre, the authors highlight a recent study showing an overall decrease in public stigma towards people with depression, especially among millennials. Attitudes towards those with alcohol dependence and other mental illnesses do not seem to be changing as much, which, as the authors point out, requires rethinking campaigns and efforts to reduce stigma.
For now though, I'll take this as a win, and will continue to discuss mental illness and mental health with everyone in my life, young and old.
