Best practices when providing language support in services for older adults requires special considerations and strategies. Language access in this context can be made more complex by multiple factors such as mental health, age-related speech and/or hearing loss, family involvement and intervention, and cognitive impairment. A deeper understanding of these dynamics can optimize the outcomes in interpreter-assisted appointments.

Presenters
Angela Sasso is the Founder & Director of The Interpreter’s Lab (a program of Shifting Pictures Inc.), where interpreters come to learn and grow as language professionals. Angela began working as an interpreter in 1989, has since worked as an interpreter educator, researcher, policy development and expert consultant. She is currently the President of Critical Link International, serving her 3rd term, and Canadian Vice Chair of ISO TC 37/SC 5 Translation, interpreting and related technologies, as well as the International Convenor and Project Leader of ISO TC 37/SC 5/ WG4 Interpreting and translation teaching and training programs.
Grace Eagan is the Director, Language Services and Digital Strategy at Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services in Toronto. Grace began working as a community interpreter in 2007, and has since been actively involved in various aspects of language access including interpreter training and accreditation, quality standards, remote interpreting platform development, and research. She is currently Chair of the Ethics Review Committee of the Ontario Council on Community Interpreting (OCCI).
