In Ontario, a critical mass is growing advocating for drug policy reform in response to the drug poisoning crisis. The goal of the Alternatives to Criminalization of People who Use Substances (ACPUS) Community of Interest is to provide a forum to share knowledge and promote networking related to non-criminalization of people who use/used substances. By sharing knowledge and resources related to decriminalization efforts, the group’s aim is to inform local action and to advance provincial or federal approaches to decriminalization throughout Ontario.

The ACPUD Community of Interest is inviting anyone involved with or interested in efforts to shift the perception of drug use from being a criminal issue to a health issue in need of health-based interventions. We are hoping for a diversity of perspectives in our membership – this can include people who work in the field of substance use health, harm reduction, public health, law enforcement, those involved in local or regional decriminalization efforts, people who have been impacted by Ontario’s drug poisoning crisis, and people who have experienced stigmatization or criminalization related to substance use.

The ACPUD CoI will hold its’ inaugural meeting on Tuesday March 7, 2023 at 2:00-3:00 EST. Meetings will recur on the first Tuesday of each month. Meetings will be held virtually via Webex.
