This new tool identifies 10 critical dimensions that define the quality of mental health care for patients and providers alike. It proposes a vision of care services that are: - accessible
- appropriate
- built on continuous learning and improvements
- integrated
- people centred
- recovery oriented
- safe
- stigma-free and inclusive
- trauma informed
- considerate of work-life balance.
The development of the framework was led by the Quality Mental Health Care Network, co-chaired by the Mental Health Commission of Canada and HealthCareCAN. This network unites health-sector leaders from across the country to help improve access to quality mental health care.
The framework was built on the expertise of people with lived and living experience of mental health problems or illnesses and/or substance use concerns, health-care administrators, and practitioners.
Also crucial in its development were the Canadian Quality and Patient Safety Framework for Health Services (Health Standards Organization, and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute), the Framework for Safe, Reliable, and Effective Care, and the Quadruple Aim (Institute for Healthcare Improvement). |
