Ottawa’s first residential program for survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation opened last summer. In 2017, PACT-Ottawa (Persons Against the Crime of Trafficking in Humans) received nearly $1.6 million from the provincial government in addition to several donations and grants to open Ottawa’s first residential program in March, 2018. The much needed residential program offers counselling supports, art therapy, pet therapy and yoga and meditation and fills a gap in Ottawa, where a report by PACT-Ottawa identified 140 local victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
