Course Description

Expressive Arts (ExA) refers to the use of creativity and artmaking for personal and collective transformation. This immersive and interactive workshop is a discussion of the relationship between Arts and Health – a growing global movement. We will look at the therapeutic arts continuum, explore different forms of artmaking, discuss the central principles and theoretical orientation of ExA, and look at ways to integrate ExA safely and effectively into work with clients. In this workshop, we will create a temporary studio space; a container for exploring our inner and outer worlds through the language of the arts. No previous art experience is required. Cost includes art supplies.

Learning Objectives

  • An overview of the global Arts and Health movement;
  • Appreciation for the Science of Art and the Art of Science;
  • Understanding of the relationship between Creativity & Resiliency;
  • Learn and practice new ways of coping through creativity;
  • Generate ideas for work with clients and group programming.
