Dear White Therapists©: Please Don't Call Me Maria
November 5, 2021 @ 10:00am-12:00pm EST
Presented by: Dr. Michelle Álvarez
Dear White Therapists©: Please Don’t Call Me Maria is designed to be an empowering, welcoming, yet frank discussion on the topic of race. It is NOT a space to yell at or shame white people. It’s a place to start working together against the common enemy of white supremacy. It’s a space to get curious about what racism really is, the supporting roles that we play in it, and the concrete steps that we can take to interrupt it, and truly act as an ally to our clients, colleagues, and people in general –right from our therapist couch.
This workshop will help you get started –or continue on your journey toward becoming an antiracist therapist. You may think of yourself as “not racist.” However, the opposite of racist is antiracist. If you are not actively fighting against systemic racial injustice, then you are actively perpetuating it. If that is the case, not only are you, in fact, racist, but you are practicing in violation with your Code of Ethics. Particularly if this statement surprises you or you disagree with it, this workshop is for you. Come find out how you –yes, you – are enacting racial trauma right in your office –whether you have clients of color or not. Or come to continue learning more. I am sure you will hear content that you either have not heard before or could benefit from hearing again.
This Webinar is FREE for Ontario Registered Social Workers (RSW), Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW) and Students of Social Work and Social Service Work Programs. Please note: If you are not an RSW, RSSW or student of these programs in Ontario, you may still attend but will be charged a nominal fee of $35.
