211 or 911: Toronto Community Crisis Service: 2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations
2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations has been in operation for over 30 years and continues to be an Indigenous and Two-spirit led organization that is grounded in wholistic health and wellness, operating with an Indigenous harm reduction lens and meeting our community where it is at.
In partnership with Eshkiniigjik Naandwechigegamig – A place for healing our youth Aabiish Gaa Binjibaaying? – Where did we come from? -Youth Program (ENAGB) and Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre, for the TCCS pilot, they are honoured to walk alongside and support their communities in times of need.
The 2-Spirits TCCS Indigenous led pilot responds to mental health related crises, substance/overdose response and wellness checks for individuals located within Division 14.
Their work is rooted in community, it is relational, trauma informed, non-aggressive, and aims to always centre the individual in our approach to supporting their wholistic health and wellness.
About the presenter:
Saige McMahon (she/her) is an Anishnaabekwe settler mix from Treaty 3 Territories Rainy River First Nations and identifies as being a part of the queer community.
She is currently the Director for the Indigenous led Crisis Response Pilot, "Kamaamwizme wii Naagidiwendiiying - "Coming together to (heal or look after or to take care of) each other".
She has been working in various capacities with 2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations for roughly 4 years and is committed to social justice work, and centering community in all spaces.
