Did you know more than 10% of Canadians experience mood, anxiety, or substance use disorders?  Many who seek services for these problems look for support from others who had a similar experience and are now in recovery. This type of support can be critical to success when trying to adopt healthy and positive behaviours. In short, people with lived experience can play an important role in helping others achieve recovery from mental health problems and addictions.

The Centre for Innovation in Peer Support is leading the way with a peer support service model in the Mississauga - Halton Region. EENet collaborated with the Centre for Innovation in Peer Support to highlight this promising practice that is changing the way Ontario's mental health and addiction system is viewed and functions.

It has been GREAT working with Howie, Jason and the EENet team on this promising practice feature of the Centre for Innovation in Peer Support.  This was exactly the product that we needed to communicate all the dynamics, complexity and scope of the Centre. The Centre was previously known as the Enhancing & Sustaining Peer Support Initiative.

The Team

Directors, Christina Jabalee & Betty-Lou Kristy

Jody Orr, Embedded Evaluator

Below are the awards and citations we have been honoured to receive.  But more importantly.....all of us involved in the leadership of the Centre have lived and/or family experience.

This document was prepared as a part of a larger project on performance measurement for Mental Health and Addiction (MHA) service systems (Lead: Dr. Karen Urbanoski).

  • 2017 The Initiative is featured in the Excellence through Quality Improvement  (E-QIP) Report –The feature was titled: An inspiring look at Quality Improvement in action: Introducing the Mississauga Halton Region’s Enhancing and Sustaining Peer Support Initiative.
