It's exciting to have a whole week dedicated to mental health awareness, as opposed to just one day! I've loved seeing the great promotion in the news from all walks of life about how an individual's own mental health or the mental health of others has been impacted.

But the promotion doesn't stop after this week is over. The innovation being done in peer support programming in Ontario is working hard to always raise awareness and positively change the mental health and addiction system.

Take a moment to consider, the Centre for Innovation in Peer Support, which is leading the way with a peer support service model in the Mississauga - Halton Region. EENet collaborated with the Centre for Innovation in Peer Support to highlight this promising practice that is changing the way Ontario's mental health and addiction system is viewed and functions.

Spend a few minutes to read up on this promising practice on EENet.ca or review the attached document for more information, to learn more about how peer support programming raises mental health awareness all year.

Hello! Thanks for posting this Howie. As one of the Directors for the Centre for Innovation in Peer Support I am very excited and proud of this EENet Promising Practice  feature.

I was slightly delayed in responding to this post because my "work wife" Christina (the other Director for the Centre) and myself were in Calgary at the Peer Support Canada conference (May 6-May 8).  It was amazing!  There are so many pockets of excellence happening in peer support.  I believe there was 400 people there.

We were very honoured to be involved in facilitating and presenting.  On Sunday evening  I helped to co-facilitate a peer support research Community of Practice (COP) and my "work wife" co-facilitated a peer support mentoring COP.  On the Tuesday we presented a 90 minute workshop on the Centre called: Promising Practice- Centre for Innovation in Peer Support. We were amazed that we had over 90 people that attended our workshop. AND GUESS WHAT WE GAVE TO ALL ATTENDEES?  Yup...they all received a coloured copy of the 8 page EENet Promising Practice!!!  We even structured the whole presentation around that.  And it was really well received!  Later in the day on Tuesday we also presented our two posters.  The first one was: Development of Research Tool- Integrity, Quality and Impact of Peer Support and the second one was: Governance Relationship Structure-Centre for Innovation in Peer Support.

I will post the posters and some pictures soon and link back to this post...BUT...here are a couple of pictures of the two Directors of the Centre (Christina and Betty-Lou) at the Peer Support Canada conference in Calgary.... As you can see we take our jobs very seriously!!!
