Nice to "meet you" Betty-Lou! I will be attending the Waypoint conference on Friday with Tamar. I look forward to seeing you there
Hello everyone!
As a Masters student, at Carleton University in Neuroscience, and a sibling of someone with mental illness I am conducting research on the sibling experince. I am currently working with Drs. Kim Matheson and Hymie Anisman on the online project 'Siblings of Those With and Without Mental Illness – A Life Course Perspective' (http://bit.ly/1BeJgp4).
I look forward to connecting with others here about the different areas of mental health and knowledge mobilization of it.
Welcome, Lisa!
My name is Emma and I'm one of the adminstrators of EENet Connect. Feel free to be in touch with anyone questions you have about the site.
It sounds like you are doing some fascinating research, so I look forward to future posts from you. Enjoy!
Hi Emma,
Thank you for your welcoming message. I will surely contact you with any questions that come up.
I'll gladly post an update about my research on EENet for those who are interested.
Hi there. I am a Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor at Laurentian University. Along with Dr. Joanne Dolhnaty, I am a co-developer of Emotion-Focused Family Therapy for eating disorders and general mental health issues. I am a strong advocate of family therapy over individual therapy as a primary service for children and teens. Looking forward to the community.
Hi Adele,
Welcome to EENet! I look forward to hearing more about your family therapy. Please let us know the title of your research article and when it is published.

Lived Experience/‘Family’ Advocate- Mental Health, Addiction, Trauma & Bereavement
Hi Everyone,
After 27 years in education I switched gears and earned an M.A. in Counselling Psychology, trained for 2 years in Bereavement Education and Grief and Trauma Counselling, opened a private practice and became a member of the Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I am a facilitator with Bereaved Families of Ontario and love working with groups. My practice is designed for cultural diversity and the more I learn, the happier I am.
Welcome to the forum!
I am a mother who lost her 25 year old son to Oxycontin overdose. It will be 15 years this x-mas season. I devote my time to systems level advocacy. I too have worked with Bereaved Families of Ontario. I was a board director for Bereaved Families of Ontario-Halton/Peel for three years and also did extensive training to be a peer bereavement facilitator through BFO and also through VON Halton for their hospice/palliative care programs.
I loved doing group work at BFO and I also provided one on one when possible for those whose loss was complicated do to mental health/ suicide and/or accidental overdose and addiction issues.
I also have a significant childhood trauma history living with parents struggling with mental health and addiction issues and a very toxic marriage.
I think grief/loss whether through a bereavement or 'life loss cycles' is an area that is so pervasive in terms of risk but the dots are not connected to that yet. Then of course trauma which is finally being connected to peoples wellness.

Hi everyone,
I am a new Knowledge Broker with EENet, and I am looking forward to connecting with all of the diverse people on this platform. I have both a health policy/stakeholder engagement background, and lived experience with mental illness, so I look forward to hearing the different perspectives and ideas shared on EENetConnect.
I am passionate about reducing the stigma of mental illness and addictions, and I try and create space for conversations whenever I can. It is still amazing to me how quiet people get when you talk about mental illness or about struggling with your mental health. I hope that one day things will change and people will feel as comfortable talking about mental illness as they do about diabetes (which I was diagnosed with when I was 11 )
If you ever want to talk about your experience, struggles, successes or anything else, feel free to message me!
Thanks,
Rebecca
Welcome to the team Rebecca!
Hello to the EEnet Connect Community!
I am Jewel - a knowledge Broker with CAMH Health Promotion Resource Centre(HPRC). I am really passionate about health promotion, moreover, mental health promotion and have a keen interest in how where we live, work, learn and play impact our mental well-being. I firmly believe in HPRC's work since we are working at the upstream/systems level to make significant impacts at the individual level.
I am excited to be part of this community and look forward to engaging and exchanging knowledge on mental health promotion and substance misuse prevention.
JB

Hi Everyone!
I'm Colin, an analyst for the federal government. I work in insolvency, and I'm interested in the role that addiction, gambling, and mental health can play in forcing people to file bankruptcy.
Part of my organization's mandate is the financial rehabilitation of people who use our services here, and I'm passionate about finding new, more emphatic ways to accomplish that goal, where these types of struggles are involved; It's not something that I'm certain the insolvency system does well at the moment, but I want to work to change that.
Wow, interesting field of work Colin, I would imagine that financial rehabilitation of individuals is not a top priority for the insolvency system, but it is great to hear that there are people out there wanting to improve it! We need more people like you in government Welcome!
Welcome Colin. That is an very different perspective to bring to this network. WELCOME

DART 1-800-565-8603 could define front line agencies in Ontario that provide support for Gambling, as well as the OLG to give you front line insight where a starting place might be.
Issues relating to substance use and financial issues will likely be tied to stigma of mental health and addiction. Perhaps that is a way to stir the pot to increase compassion.

Hello everyone,
My name is Aviva. I’m part of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) team working on a coordinated pan-Canadian approach to prescription drug abuse monitoring, surveillance and reporting.
I’ve really appreciated all I have learned from this community over the past few months, and look forward to learning even more. Thank you!
Welcome Aviva! Nice to meet you!
Welcome, Aviva, happy to see your name on here Can't wait to hear about all the exciting work you guys are doing at CIHI.
Welcome Aviva!
I was on the MoHLTC Expert Advisory Narcotics and engaged with many provincial initiatives regarding opioids. (plus I lost my 25 year old son to Oxycontin Overdose almost 15 years ago). Glad you are here to share.
Hi, I m Lawrence originally from Hong Kong. Since coming to live in Toronto a few years ago, I have been an active Volunteer at the Schizophtenia Society of Ontario. On a regular basis, I facilitate a 4-session family education course on coping with Psychosis. I also participate in family support groups both at SSO (multicultural) and at Hong Fook Association (Chinese). At this juncture, I am keen to learn as much insights as I could, about the Cognitive-Psychological elements underlying symptoms and behaviours, so that they could be shared with Families coping in their daily caregiving. I believe apart from basic comprehensive knowledge about Psychosis, Families also need skills to empower them to cope with caregiving, and play meaningful roles as Partners of Recovery. I am keen to learn and sharing with Families. My background has been divided into public service, including policing, and business innovation for small and medium size entreprises. I would like to devote my post-retirement career reincarnation to service in the MH circles. It is an entirely new horizon for me.
Welcome Lawrence! I see a lot of links here between yourself and people in the EENet Connect community! Can't wait for the discussion to ensue
Welcome Lawrence!
