The research challenge: How might we reduce suicide deaths among youth and young adults living with mental illness, especially psychosis or schizophrenia, in areas where health and social services are limited?

Why this research challenge is important:

Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among 15- to 24-year-olds.

Young adults living with psychosis or schizophrenia, especially those who live in northern and remote regions of Canada, are at much greater risk of suicide.

Currently, over 1 million children and youth in Canada are affected by mental illness; only 20% will receive treatment to recover and lead healthy lives.
