Mental health resources for refugees
Hi everyone,
I work at Lifeline Syria, an organization that processes applications for Syrian refugees to come to Canada.
Please feel free to share any mental health resources or services that are available to Syrian newcomers in Toronto. As you can imagine, the mental health needs of Syrian newcomers are high, as they are coming from conflict zones.
Thanks in advance!
Hey Seher,
Do you know about Costi Services? I read a news article that they're heavily involved in helping newcomers. (I assume you have!
)

Portico Network, which is an online resource I work on, also has a list of services, per province for finding mental health related resources, including housing:

Lastly, for Ontario, I would recommend connexontario.ca which is a great database for health services.
Hope that helps!
Hi Seher,
The Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture is another non-profit organization in Toronto that provides mental health programming in addition to other supports for survivors of war.
Hi Seher,
Check out the resources here:

There's also the refugee mental health page on Portico.
Hope that's helpful
Hi Seher,
Across Boundaries offers programs. http://www.acrossboundaries.ca/onsite
Thrive Child and Youth Trauma Services: http://www.thrivechildandyouth.ca/
Not mental health specific, but something people should be aware of is Language Services Toronto, which delivers interpretation services (including for mental health) in all of Toronto's major hospitals.
Yes, it was on my mind when I wrote my reply, thank you for mentioning it, Heather! If anyone would like an introduction to the people who work on this project, let me know. They're very connected.
Cheers,
Brennan
Sorry for joining the conversation late; thanks for mentioning the Refugee Mental Health Project (RMHP), Heather and Brennan!
Seher, it's great to "meet" you! We often refer to Lifeline Syria's website and resources. The RMHP website contains webinars on various topics and a Toolkit with resources (mostly geared to service providers).
Regarding Toronto-based resources for Syrian newcomers here are a few related to mental health:
Feel free to get in touch! I look forward to hearing more about Lifeline Syria's work!

Emma,
