Modernizing Public Health Communication Competencies in Canada
Take part in a questionnaire to increase understanding of public health professionals’ communication competence and what new communication competencies are important for public health practice. The study will result in a new communication competency framework for public health in Canada to address modern and complex public health challenges.
The information gathered may be used to inform the renewal of the PHAC Core Competencies. This CIHR-funded study is being conducted by Dr. Jennifer McWhirter from the Department of Population Medicine, University of Guelph.
Who can participate?
This questionnaire is open to any individuals 18 years and older, fluent in either English or French, who currently work or conduct research in the public health field in Canada. Public health is broadly defined as the organized societal effort to keep people healthy and prevent injury, illness, and disease. The public health field may include but is not limited to health promotion and protection, injury prevention, public health policy, public health administration, public health program/service delivery, and academic/research roles in public/population health at the local, provincial, or federal levels.
What are you being asked to do?
We ask that you voluntarily complete the survey with questions about your current role in public health, your self-reported communication competencies, and your ideas for future competency areas needed for effective communication in public health. The survey will take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.
This questionnaire will be open until July 21st, 2023. After that time, no further responses will be collected and unfinished questionnaires will not be recorded.
