Seeking methods on developing a list of 2SLGBTQ+ safe practitioners
Hello,
A colleague of mine is psychiatrist and is trying to compile a list of 2SLGBTQ+ supportive mental health practitioners in our area that she can refer out to. Due to some issues in our town with people self-identifying as allies but that not translating into their practice, she wants the list to come from members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Right now she's just talking to clients she sees but it hoping to have a better methodology.
We're looking for ways in which other people/organizations/cities/etc. have developed lists of practitioners who are safe and supportive for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
Thank you!
Hi [@mention:368928009421148568],
What is your area?
There is a community of practice for LGBTQ practitioners list serv (which has an internal list) . There is also Rainbow Health Ontario. I am on both as I identify as a queer femme of colour and am a therapist (MSW, RSW). Sincerely, Heidi Mehta www.psychologytoday.com/ca/the...search=heidi%20mehta
Sorry, I'm in the Northwest region (The psychiatrist and myself are based in Thunder Bay but a lot of services here cover a large chunk of Northwestern Ontario)
Hi Elyse, I am also based out of Thunder Bay at the TBDHU - perhaps I could lend a hand. Feel free to reach out.

Hi I'm a trans man working in Kingston with AMHS-KFKA in the Addictions program. I serve the LGBTQ2S+ community here. The above link should take you to Rainbow Health Ontario's service directory which I believe consists of LGBTQ2S+ service providers in Ontario. You may also add yourself to the list, although I'm not sure how one goes about that.
Hopefully this is helpful to you and the LGBTQ2S+ community in the North.
Best Regards,
Shaun Allan
Hi, I don’t know if this will be helpful or not. I’m in Halton Region. ROCK and the Positive Space Network have developed an online learning tool. It is new and not fully developed but there is currently one course for professionals I am taking called Building Positive Spaces.
This is an upcoming tool for practisers to learn, but also provides learning modules for parents, caregivers.

Agreed with Rainbow Health Ontario resources. Also thanks to the others for sharing their resources.
We have a Rainbow Health Community of Practice here in Sarnia-Lambton. This group is composed of organizations with shared values as well as people with lived-experience. We have a few grassroots organizations as members and they help people find the support they need.
We haven't necessarily made a "list" of providers, but we are working on local referral pathways as a 2020 project. I can see mental health services being a stream on that pathway. We are still deciding if it will be targeted toward organizations and healthcare providers, or for the client themselves to use.
So my suggestion would be to seek out a local rainbow health "community of practice" (or form one) to help you listen to those with lived-experience and reflect that into practice (especially when developing a list of positive practitioners.
Thank you so much everyone!
Hi [@mention:368928009421148568],
I am with ROCK and the Positive Space Network.
Thanks for reaching out! I am in the process of establishing a community of practice across regions. Our focus is on the mental health and well-being of 2SLGBTQ+ youth (up to age 24). We don't currently have any active connections north of the GTA, but do feel free to loop back to me once you find individuals who are specifically engaged in doing this work. Our goal is to have monthly peer supervision via video chat, an online drive for resource-sharing and a listserv for announcements across regions.
Thank you for the shout-out [@mention:337101639543273772]. Feel free to connect if we are not already
I would consider registering the programs on the Rainbow Health Ontario servie provider list, as well as the list for Youth Line. This is easy for community members to find if they are doing an online search for local resources.
