Trauma-informed de-escalation training?
HI all,
A colleagues is asking for leads on training:
"Within the realm of our clinical services (sexual health and needle exchange program), our staff have dealt with situations that require verbal de-escalation. We’ve searched for training opportunities on verbal de-escalation but have not been able to find one that would suit our needs. We are particularly looking for training opportunities that utilize a trauma-informed approach. Wondering if any other public health unit or community partners know of such training opportunities or providers."
Any help? Thanks.
Shana
Hi Shana,
Have you looked at the programs of Safe Management Group (SMG) out of Oakville, Ontario? I was very impressed with their Crisis Intervention Training Program. It is a trauma informed Recovery model approach and integrates this posture very intentionally. I have taken both Crisis Prevention Institute's NVCI program and the SMG Crisis Intervention Training Program. For frontline staff the I believe the Canadian program provides more comprehensive practical skills and verbal de-escalation strategies than programs with a lot of theoretical acronyms. It is endorsed by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. Might be something to explore. https://safemanagement.org
